"Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!"

Because of our lazy weekend last week, when we both finished Christmas shopping and watching TV, we have decided to have a fun filled weekend this week!
Ben and I got done with work a little early last night and headed down to the Jazz vs Magic game. Dwight Howard plays for the Magic and is one of my favorite players, (after Memo of course:) and we were very excited to see him in action. We hustled downtown after work and were able to get lower bowl tickets! This is the first game we were able to get lower tickets and were very excited to watch the big game. Now I am a Jazz fan, but when there is a great player in town, I get very excited to watch them. Ben thought that the Jazz didn't have any hope to win the game, but the second half really turned around for the Jazz and they were able to pull off a W.
Tonight we are going to lay low, gym and then supper and tomorrow again a full day of basketball. Being a big sports fan, Ben wants to hit up a U of U basketball game as they are playing Oklahoma, and as far as I've heard Oklahoma must be a top ranked team. After this game, we are going straight downtown to get tickets for another Jazz game, against the Laker's tonight! It's always fun going to watch basketball for me, and the Jazz Bear is my favorite!
Along with all the sports excitement for the weekend there is another huge snow storm that is suppose to blow in starting late tonight until Sunday. Now it's unusual to get Ben away from from the TV on football Sunday's, but we might have to make our first trek up to the ski hills with all the new snow. It may be cold, but it's time for the ski season to start!

Trip to ND!!

Ben and I went back home to Lisbon for Thanksgiving this year.
The whole family was together, well everyone but my brother in law. We had amazing food, great family time, we relaxed and not only that, we had a chance to get away!
We flew in on Thanksgiving morning to Fargo, with a quick layover in Minneapolis, we were on the ground by 12:30 pm. Heather came and picked us up, a pit stop at Ryan's place in Horace, and back to L-Town to get ready for supper.
Turkey, stuffing, potatoes and don't forget about
the pre-meal shot we had to take. My dad had a great liquor that we toasted and roasted before we stuffed ourselves full. Since Heather and I are now old married ladies, we helped with the cleaning up so no big after dinner nap for us.
The rest of the weekend was full of coffee dates, little bit of shopping, playing games and laying around.
We did make it out one night and met up with some friends. Nothing crazy but the usual Thanksgiving crowd and shots.
Ben and I left on Sunday evening after we were able to stop for a quick bit to eat with some friends at BWW in Fargo. We had to miss the Vikings game as everyone had to get home to watch it, so Ryan dropped us off at the airport and Ben and I relaxed before our flight.
It was a great weekend. We made it back to SLC before Desperate Housewives started, picked up our puppy we missed so much and then back to work on Monday. The only thing that we didn't get was some snow on the ground in SLC, we are ready to hit the slopes!

We found our old childhood hats!

New Moon

Having another great weekend of shopping, movies and laying around makes the weeks go by so fast and the weekends linger! It seems the only thing I am looking forward too are weekends like this. We are lucky though and things are on the up and up as we just had our first big snow last night. Nine new inches up in the mountains and nothing on the roads this morning to make for a nasty commute. Well, not for Ben and I as least. The early morning travel didn't have it quite as nice.
Saturday we did a little shopping around. We checked out some snowshoes at REI. We met some people that go and we want to start to do some hiking up in the mountains.
Sunday we watched the Vikings game and the I hit up "New Moon" with some friends. Once we were out of the theatre, the snow was flying. We had a normal lazy Sunday night watching TV and reading. But I did still have time to test out a new meal for Ben and I. I had a left over steak and thawed out to make a pasta sauce with it. I took some red and green peppers, cut them up and sauteed the steak, peppers and mushrooms in some butter and garlic. I then made a cream sauce with some white wine, cream and shredded cheese. It cooked very fast and then just boiled up some noodles and enjoy! Ben loves that I have been trying new meals for us to try.
Up next...Thanksgiving in ND. Can not wait!!

Movies, Movies, Movies

I absolutely love watching movies and so does Ben. It's something that we like to do together because we both know that well will go with each other, good or bad.
Since it was snowing all day on Saturday, Ben and I didn't leave our couch!
Once SATC movie came out, I had to watch it even though I have never watched the seasons. Once I watched the movie I watched all the seasons 1-6 in about a month. It was all I wanted to do! In one of the episodes when Big is getting married to the model, Carrie makes a reference to "The Way We Were" with Barbara Streisand and Robert Redford. Ever since, I have been dying to watch it. So I finally did this weekend. It was not what I thought, but good non the less. I would definitely recommend it, who doesn't love those oldies!!
We then decided to watch another one, after a nap of course! I like to let Ben chose 3 movies he wants to see and then I pick the one we watch. We ended up watching "Bad BoysII". It's such a funny movie and a little action. Will Smith and Martin Lawerance are so good together. Once that was over, I decided that we need to watch the original "Bad Boys". We barely made it through it, but it was a great movie day!

My top 5 Favs!

I have changed some in the last couple of years. I am the same, I just have some new things that I like.
1. I LOVE grocery shopping! I used to absolutely dispise doing it. I don't know what has really change. Mostly, it's because I have started cooking different things, but I have also found ways to save money and to me its so fun.
2. I LOVE having a clean house. Now, I don't like cleaning, I just like keeping it clean. Before I used to not care because I wasn't always home, but now it's becoming second nature to keep it clean.
3. I Absolutely have to have my bed made in the morning. I NEVER use to make the bed because I always figured that I would just mess it up again at night, but now it drives me nuts if it is not made.
4. I LOVE HDTV. I don't even own a home, but I love it.
5. I LOVE getting up in the morning. Actually I just HATE sleeping in, but didn't want to say hate right away. I have to be up at least by 8a.m. or else I feel like I am wasting my day away.

This proves that people can change.

How do you know if your in love?

No seriously, how do you?

It seems to me that there are different kinds of love. There's family love, the way you feel about parents, siblings and relatives. There is friend love, caring so much about your friends that you will tell them the absolutely truth, no matter how horrible it will make them feel. And then there is true love.

How do you know when it is true love? How do you know when it is "right"? How do you know when it is the person you should be with forever, make a life together, someone you make all the hard decisions with?

I guess the truest answer is you don't know. You don't always know when it is right. This is where the other feelings come into play. Like trust, lust, compassion and honesty.

Ben and I have been married for approximately three months and sometimes I still wonder, what made us take this leap?

Everything was great before Ben put a ring on my finger. We had fun together and we were able to do our own things. We were always honest, caring and loved one another so what difference is there if there are rings involved?

People have asked me multiple times how married life is...honestly it's about the same. Not much has changed but my last name, and it's the most extensive change yet! Ben and I still care about, love each other, are honest and compassionate, but we haven't done a lot of the life planning yet. When is this supposed to happen? It seems most people plan so much of their lives now. When to buy a home, when to have children, what are we going to do for the holidays and when will we be debt free. Now personally I feel as though life happens now. It is the last minute plans with friends, the quick trips, the nights hanging out at home. Where does the planning fit in? My mom always said she didn't plan when she was going to have kids, "where is the fun in that? You will never feel ready." And that's OK. That's what life is. It's happening now.
I guess that's how you know when your in love. It's when you do the day to day things together and know that it is all you have ever wanted in life. It's now.

ah fall and scary movies

So....Ben and I had a great Halloween. We headed up to Park City and went bar hopping with some friends. Ben was a pilot and I was dressed as an aviator, WE MATCHED! Everything thought Ben was a cop every bar we went into, "is he serious?" is what I kept hearing.
The night went by fast, but we had so much fun.
It has been so cold here lately. They even opened a resort on Halloween for season pass holders, seriously in October! The resorts aren't set to open up for a couple more weeks. Ben is patiently waiting to go and I am excited the weather warmed up a bit!
The night before Halloween, one of Ben's friends asked us to go to "Paranormal Activity" which is a scary movie about ghost that came out this year. Ben HATES scary movies and I love them, but being a nice husband, Ben came with. I didn't think the movies was that scary, it was ok, but I wanted more. A few nights after the movie Izzie started acting wierd at night and NOW I'm freaked out about the movie and do not like being home alone! One night, about 5 a.m. Izzie woke up barking, fighting to get out from under the covers and ran to both doors. Ben went out to see what she was doing and she was sitting on her bed, almost as if she was confused and thought she was in trouble! A few nights after that debacle, I woke up to Izzie chowing down on her food at 2 a.m. It was so bizarre, she doesn't eat a bunch of food at once and in the middle of the night she devoured her whole bowl of food! I am trying not to think about that movie, but it just happens and now I think it is so freaky!! I had to google it to make sure it was fake, don't worry, it was.
So, not much else new, one of my friends is moving in a few weeks and we will proably hang out with her until she moves. My friend is in town until tomorrow night working for the Idaho hockey team, we are going to the game on Friday, and I am going on a hike this afternoon....yay half days and 70 degree weather!

Fun Filled Fall

This weekend was so much fun!
Friday-My friend Jason was in town, he works for the Boise, ID hockey team. They were in town playing the SLC Grizzly hockey team and Jason was able to get me some tickets to the game. Friday night I went with my friend Carissa. We then met up with Jason after for some late supper.
Saturday-Sleep time! I feel like I am still trying to catch up on some zzz's from being sick and our trip to Portland. Ben and I slept in. I then picked up Jason as he had some time off in the afternoon. Jason and I went to a park so he could run and I walked Izzie around. It was a beautiful day out, until it started raining a little bit. We then ate some lunch and took Jason back to work. Ben and I then went and carved some pumpkins! I was so happy to be able to get a pumpkin carved this year. Ben and I didn't have a chance to carve pumpkins last year, and it was so much fun to be able to do it. It was raining for a while outside, but we managed to get them done. We then went to the hockey game that night. It was Breast Cancer night, the Utah team wore all pink. We also got to see a big fight, helments and gloves off fight! The Idaho Steelheads won, both nights, yay!
Sunday-Slept in AGAIN! So nice and relaxing. I have been wanting to make a potato soup that I found on the 365 days of crock pot blog. I woke up and then put together the soup, watched my TV shows and then Izzie and I took a nap. It was a beautiful day out, and I spent it on the couch. It was nice though, I got my cleaning and shopping done, then when Ben came back, we cleaned up the yard and ate. Ben loved the soup, it was a big hit! I also make some sausage and croissants. I got some wedding pictures ordered and also had a free wedding book to get together, which I did. It feels amazing to get that done!
Now just going to relax up for a week at work. It feels good to have a great weekend behind me and getting ready for a new week at work.
**On a side note, Heather is getting ready to get her new office open. I spoke with her and will help out as much as I can from here. I also had a chance to talk to my mom, and dad got a early present, he traded in his motorcycle and got a new one! My mom sent some pics of it and it is a very nice looking bike. I can't wait to see it on Thanksgiving.
Second night of hockey, Idaho won!

First trip after the wedding

Ben and I had our honeymoon!!
Actually just a quick trip to visit our friend Michelle up in Portland.
Ben and I planned this trip soon after our wedding and have been looking forward to it ever since. I, for one, could not wait to get some days off of work and do something different! I was so looking forward to it, however I was not expecting to get a horrible chest cold and plugged up head four days before we left. When I caught it, Ben caught it, and we both woke up early on Friday morning to head to the airport with our horrible coughs and stuffed up noses.
We put aside our sickness as best we could to get in a good mood for our host. Michelle picked us up from the airport and we headed out to see the Portland sights right away. First, we hit up the waterfalls. We went up some back, windy roads up to see some different sights. After, we headed back into Portland and stayed downtown, ate and saw the city...and a lot of bums. Portland is a very eventful place.
Since we live here in SLC and are around Mts everyday, we wanted to see the beach. We left on Saturday and stopped at a winery on the way out. We sampled some amazing wine and saw a beautiful place. We then kept on and went through some of the cutest towns on the way to the beach. We stopped at a little brewery in Cannon Beach and then headed back.
Before we could leave, Ben just had to see Nike Town, so we went back to downtown Portland and Ben and I did some shopping. We loved the downtown, it was small and easy to walk around with the cutest little shops to go into. We ate a late lunch and then back to SLC.
It was a quick trip, but Michelle was a great host and we got to see so so much! We also were very lucky. The weather report said 90% chance of rain each day and the sun came out everyday we were there. We are also still working to get over our colds, but managed to take care of ourselves while we were there and were able to see and do everything we planned.

The Goonie Rock, it was really windy at the beach!

Wonderful Wednesdays

For some reason I am always happier on Wednesdays. I think it is because it is the middle of the week, only two more days of the work week left, only one more day of dress clothes (jeans Friday is my fav!) and The Ruins is on tonight. The Ruins is a show on MTV that Ben and I love to watch!
The weather has changed again, it's a little more fall like right now. At least no more snow. I was checking out a snowboarding Web site and some resorts are opening on Friday. It's crazy, not even Halloween yet. I check the weather every morning, it looks like it will be in the 50s this week and next back up in the 60s. Very nice, I just bought a new dress for work and wanted to wear it before the winter! Looks like I will be able to next week!
Ben and I are going to a friend's birthday party this weekend. We are bowling! We went for work a couple of weeks ago, and let me tell you, they better have a bar at the alley or else we are in trouble;)
I am planning on getting my Halloween costume together this weekend as next weekend Ben and I are heading to Portland to visit my friend Michelle. I am so glad Halloween is on a Saturday, I just need to find a Halloween party to go too.

Welcome Fall

Picture Courtesy of KSL.com, submitted by Julia Jeffery

Yep, that's snow. This was taken Wednesday morning, September 30. Hello fall! It went from 90 degrees, Monday and Tuesday, to 45 yesterday and today. At least it is not raining or snowing today, in the valley at least. The mountains still have snow on them today. Ben and I were planning to head up to Oktoberfest on Saturday, but I don't think we'll make it! It is supposed to warm up a little bit next week, at least back to normal fall weather.

Oh Izzie

I was listing to the radio last week and they had a trainer on who was talking about dogs and their behavior. The trainer was saying how some dogs think that they own YOU. I was laughing when I was listening to them talk about dog's behavior, because it made me think of Izzie and how she acts.
The trainer was saying how some dogs go so crazy because they think they need to protect you. This is the reason they chew on furniture or pee on everything when you leave them alone, they are so distraught about the idea of you, OUT THERE. So when you come home and are upset about the mess your house is in, they think your mad because of what happened, OUT THERE, not because of your torn up furniture.
Everytime I think of this I giggle because I know that's what Izzie thinks. She goes insane if I am in the house and Ben is not. It's like she doesn't understand why we are not together and why Ben is not there and she needs to make sure he is OK.
I guess even though I am now in my own home I still have my little mama watching out for me.

Start to a new week

Ben and I did get that hike in on Saturday. It was beautiful out! We actually found some motivation in us and decided to hike up to the second lake! It was a great day to do the big hike, and in good time as it is suppose to snow in the mountains on Wednesday. Yes, I did just say snow. People always keep saying that there is not much of a fall season here in Utah, but seriously A WEEK!

A new work week has started and I am already trying to figure out how to get through it! It has been one weird month at work and I just have "those days". My mom sent a great email to Ben and I, just to keep your head up and it and it will all work out in the end. I keep thinking about that and that's how I get through those days, Thanks Mom!!
Well, on a lighter note, I did some shopping on Sunday and got my Halloween decorating done! I may need to get some more stuff, but our house is getting the fall "Halloween" make over started! Izzie got a new costume this weekend as well. I found a cute clown outfit for Izzie. She looked so great in it.

Check these out!

Since I am fairly new at this whole blog world, I have been interested into seeing what other people blog about. I added some new links to my page for some blogs and Web pages that I have found with some of my interests:

Shopping-Of course right! I love to shop and love to learn how to make items I have work for a whole new look. One of the blogs there is a blogger who shows how she uses her wardrobe for work and hanging out. It has given me new ideas of what I can do with my existing wardrobe and save some moola. The other is one I just like to read! It has updates on everything from deals at store to NYC fashion week. We all love to dream, right?

Awkward Family Photos-Just take a look and you'll know why I like it.

Baking-I have received some new baking tools since Ben and I were married and have been trying out some new recipes. This blog has a ton of great goodies to try. I hope my co-workers are ready for this!

Home Decor-My new favorite channel to watch is HGTV, all about homes, decorating and how to style it. I, myself, am not that great at decorating but am trying to learn. I love this site as it is a woman who comes up with cheap ideas on what will work for your space as well as thrift store goodies that she finds and makes work. It's fun to see what can be done.

Crock pot-From our great friends, Jen and Jason, Ben and I got a great crock pot for a wedding gift. I have only used it once so far (and a very successful meal was made) but Jen showed me this blog and it has many great looking recipes. I just need to try more.

Organic-I don't do everything organic, but am interested in organic foods and cleaning supplies, and have started buying more organic products. This is a new blog I found, but seems very interesting. Just up for learning new things.

Check them out for yourself! You can learn a lot of great stuff!

Happy Autumn!!

And all we're doing is Work. Work. Work.

It's only Tuesday, three more full days of work to go, and I am dreading it. I feel as though I haven't gotten anything done at work since before Labor Day weekend. Why is it that people don't want to get things resolved! Help me help you!! Ben has been just as stressed out, so we always are working for the weekend, literally.

So, for a weekly solution, we are going to start doing a weekly date night, to help break up the week for us. This week will be our first. We are going to go and check out a sushi place on Thursday. Also we want to try and get that hike in on Saturday morning that I planned last weekend and we didn't make it. I think that the weather is going to be fairly nice again this week and into the weekend. Then probably the typical weekend for us....Ben will watch football, I will shop, cook, clean, eat, nap and watch girly movies. I have been trying harder this year and watching at least one game a weekend. So far I'm 1-2. Fairly good I think.

Well, today wasn't all bad, Benny got me some flowers to cheer me up. I think these will help me make it to Friday. What a great husband!

A Lazy Weekend

Ben and I had all these things planned for the weekend, but we ended up bumming around, both days.

Friday night I went out with a few girlfriends and we hit up Keys on Main, a fun piano bar downtown SLC. It was a little crazy, as it usually gets when I'm out with the girls.

Saturday, Ben and I were going to get up before 8 to head out on a hike that I want to do up Big Cottonwood Canyon, but we slept in, Benny went and got breakfast, and we hung out and watched TV all day.

Our hot water heater has broke down on us, yet again, and we are still trying to get a hold of our landlord to fix it. It has made me head to the gym more often than I prefer to utilized the showers there. I think I'll only be able to handle maybe a few more days of this.

Here are some pictures from my hike up in Park City a few weeks ago.

Izzie

I was on the computer the other night and caught Izzie having a moment. She is such a silly little dog. Always on the go, we never catch her like this. It's so hilarious to see her when she actually tires out.

Goofy little puppy keeps our hearts warm.

Quick update

So just a quick update of the last couple of weeks:

August 29-Ben and I had our first BBQ, with quests that is. We invited over some friend, grilled, played yard games and then Ben busted out the new Playstation 3 and everyone took turns. It was a great time and I was so worried and it all went OK so I know that I will be able to do this again.

Labor Day weekend-Ben and I decided to use the extra day off to relax a little bit. Saturday morning Ben and I got up bright and early and hit the Sniagrab, a popular Utah ski and snow sale. We also feel more like Utahans because we got a pass to Snowbird for the season, we have really stepped it up this year;) Later that day I went to my friend's baby shower, it was fun, met some new people, and got to guess the baby belly! It was my first baby shower and was a great time, so excited for you Jen and Jason!! Saturday night Ben and I went out to a nice little grille close to our house, had a quick bite, and then headed home, put on the sweats and watched Heros. Heros came out on DVD a couple weeks ago and that is one of our new favorite shows to watch at night. Monday I headed up to Park City and did a hike with my friend Carissa. It was beautiful out and a gorgeous hike! After we went to a great restaurant in Kimball Junction before we headed back down. That night we headed over to Jen and Jason's for another BBQ and caught up on everything. Tuesday, unfortunately it was back to work for us.

September 13-Football season starts! This is Ben's favorite time of year, he like to sit and watch the games with the laptop on his lap watching fantasy football! I am even playing this year on a team. Hopefully Ben will teach me well and it goes good for the both of us this year. Later that night, it was time for the VMA's, I know, why am I talking about this? It was a crazy show, not only do I now know that Lady Ga Ga is truly insane and am so excited for Halloween, but also learned that Kanya West must have a couple mental disorders. If you missed the show itself, go ahead and turn on the TV, basically to any news channel, and you will see everyone...seriously, everyone...talking about him interrupting Taylor Swift's award acceptance speech. Wow, they even said that Obama commented on this! I think that it's crazy that Patrick Swayze passes away after fighting with cancer and a college student goes missing and then they find her body, and all the news stations are talking about Mr. West. Maybe it's just me, but that is why he acts out, haven't you heard "any press is good press."
P.S. the last and most important thing that I learned from the VMA's is that Jay-z is amazing and then next thing I'm buying is his new CD.
Ben and I got up early on Labor Day and went up into Big Cottonwood Canyon for brunch. It was such a beautiful morning.

BBQ

Ben and I had our first BBQ last Saturday night. It was nice to have friends come over and feel like a real grown up married couple! We made it as easy as possible and made burgers, hot dogs and brats. The weather was amazing, we had a couple close friends come over and later Ben got to play his new PlayStation 3 with everyone, while everyone else was able to catch up and chat. I got my wedding pictures the day before and was able to show all the girls the pictures!

The next day, I was up early, the only time I have control of the remote and am able to watch the girly shows by myself. Ben and I have been so tired still since the wedding weekend. I can't even believe it has already been 17 days! We are being lazy on the weekends, so Ben slept in and I got a little bored watching TV and decided that it was a great day to do something new, so I made a hair appointment. I figured now since I am a married women I may need a new look...so I went brunette! I love it and feel like a new woman!

The last couple days I have been working on my recipe book and trying out new recipes...ok actually all of them have been cookies and muffins, but I am still putting all my new pots and pans to good use. If anyone has any great recipies for me to try, send them my way! I still have to use my new crock pot sometime soon, maybe over the holiday weekend I'll give it a shot!

Some Pictures of the trip and week

This is us, up before 5 a.m. to start our road trip home. We rented a SUV to save miles our our car and to have enough room to bring everything back with us. It was when we were on the interstate when we realized that there was no cruise control in the rental. Yep, that's over 1000 miles one way we drove with no cruise. It was brutal.

A day on the river! It was over 90 degrees out this day. There were only three days over 90 this whole summer in NoDak. We were so lucky and had so much fun with everyone getting to know each other.

Rehearsal dinner with all the bridesmaids. It was a great night at Ben's mom's house. There was so much family, great food and fun. Last night as a single lady!

The next evening at Ben's aunt and uncles house in Bismarck for a casual supper. These pictures are some of my favorite of the whole weekend. When I look at these pictures, it all just seems so real and it makes us look like husband and wife! I love them and it shows off how beautiful North Dakota summers can be.

Our Wedding Week!!

Ben and I live in Salt Lake City, UT but are both from North Dakota, so of course that is where our wedding was. Planning a wedding long distance was not a problem for us at all! We have family there, I should say AMAZING FAMILY, that all helped out so much. All the decorations, location details and flowers were all done for us when we showed up a week before the big day. As the week went on, I went home to spend time with my family as Ben stayed to hang out with his. Ben is an amazing person and made this planning even easier for me. Anything that stressed me out, I would tell Ben and he would take care of it! How sweet!! The Thursday before the wedding we decided to throw a "bay day" of fun out in the sun at Ben's dad's house. We had the entire wedding party, and parents out getting a great tan and getting to know each other. It was so much fun! After the day, Ben had his bachelor party and I had a night out with my girls! The next night was our rehearsal dinner, where Ben's mother threw us the nicest party in her back yard. It was a sailor themed party and the decorations were amazing. More family time and everyone getting to know each other more. The next day, the big day, most important day of the festivities, wedding day. I went and did hair and makeup with the bridesmaids and my mother. It was a fun morning hanging out getting a mini makeover. Then off to the location to get into my dress! Just so everyone knows, North Dakota weather is very weird. First on Thursday it was 100 degrees out and not a cloud in the sky. Friday was cooler and a little drizzle was coming down most of the day. At the rehearsal, my pastor had stated if it was the same type of weather we would move the wedding inside. I think it was because of the importance of the day, but it was the most beautiful day out!! Around 70 degrees and not a cloud in the sky! We couldn't have asked for anything better. The wedding went off without a hitch! It was perfect and so sweet! It still amazes me that the day is actually over and we are both back at work. It's so bittersweet. Everyone had a blast the whole weekend and the dance topped it off. My favorite memory is during the last dance I was with Ben and looking around the dance floor and seeing how happy our guests were at that moment. It meant the world to me to see everyone we love so happy. The night, unfortunately, had to come to an end. Ben and I caught a ride to the hotel with my sister and I was able to snap one picture of us together sitting in the back seat. It's one of my favorite pictures because we look so happy! It was quite a weekend to remember.
