Weekend Activities

I've been following The Glitter Guide since it started. I found the founder, Taylor Sterling's, blog and followed her while she started it. They have amazing articles and every Friday post 5 Things to try during the weekend. I try to do some of them because they are just fun things to do especially for the weekends!

Here's a little showing of our weekend activities!

Friday I went to a bread party with a good friend. What is a bread party you ask? It's where you eat a lot of good cheese dip, enjoy good dessert treat, drink a lot of white wine and meet new people! Oh and while we were gossiping a great cook was "teaching" us how to make focaccia bread, which we enjoyed enthusiastically!
In doing all this I also wore my new peach skinny's with my new light sweater.

I already painted my nails neon yellow on Thursday, which I unfortunately do not have in a lipstick. I wanted to funk it up a little so I added a little bright pink with it. This was inspired by the 5 Things to try as well as I think it will definitely make spring/summer come a little faster!

Like I posted yesterday, I got my fitness on this weekend of course. It makes it a lot easier when I slip on my tie dye noosa's! They even glow in the dark!!

Because I work in a place where I can't wear the cutest clothes, so as the season is changing and warming up I like to enjoy wearing items that generally sit in my closet.  I also tried to funk it up with the jewelry and this Sunday I tried out layering necklaces. I don't know if I did it right but I will give myself an A for effort!

love this skirt!

Weekends are my Fav! Just like everyone I'm sure...I hope you all had a good weekend and here's to looking for the next!

Update From A Mad Runner

Back on Track!

Got my running groove back this week. I don't mean I'm breaking records I just mean I actually ran all my "running days" and did some other workout the rest. (not Friday, Friday I ate cheese dip, cookies and a lot of wine) I even up'd the anty this week and added some extra miles. Good for me and my summer bod trying to get back on the scene!
Today was the last of my "running days" B and I had a great day we did some FaceTime with my sister and nephew, coffee, lunch date and then a movie! After all that I have to say I was beat, I took a nice quick cat nap and then B and I headed down to the workout room. I went there contemplating how many miles I would run, I told B that I wasn't sure how long I would make it but I decided to just work toward 3 miles, after 3 I decided to do another 1/2 mile, but after that what's another 1/2 mile to make it an even 4 miles! Yay for me I did it and I think I realized that after about 3 miles for me I get my rhythm going and can go for-EVA! (not really)

In other news, I had a fun week hanging out with some friends a couple nights, drinking wine and catching up. B and I also had a great Saturday hanging out with our pups. We found a new little dog park close to our house and we got our morning coffee, headed over and watched the dogs chase each other and other dogs. Asia is a goofball to say the least! They had a ton of fun and had to get a bath when we got back from all the wrestling and running around!

Give me some NRG!

Who doesn't need a little bite of *NRG mid morning, afternoon or whenever! When you do it's so nice to reach for one of these little ditty's.

No-Bake NRG Bites
Ingredients:
1 cup oatmeal (dry)
1 cup toasted coconut flakes (the recipe calls for this but I did not use, I substituted chopped up mixed nuts)
1/2 cup chocolate chips (I only had dark chocolate hershey's kisses so I chopped them up and used them)
1/2 cup peanut butter (mmmmm...)
1/2 cup ground flaxseed (again I didn't use it, I cook with what I have on-hand)
1/3 cup honey
1 tsp. vanilla

Mix all ingredients together! Easy as can be!
You can substitute almost anything you would like in for the coconut, but keep the honey as it will play part in keeping it all together.
Refrigerate for 10-20 minutes, then roll into 1" balls (or bite size).
Such a quick and easy snack and not to mention healthy. I made these a couple times, the second time I didn't use the chopped nuts, I used mini chocolate chips and I bought wheat germ to substitute for the flaxseed.

Will refrigerate for up to a week in a sealed container

*NRG= short for energy. My high school biology and chemistry teacher would write it like that, since then I have always shortened the word.

High Five Friday

Yay! My favorite day of the week. Not so favorite weather, why oh why did it have to get cold again right before the weekend!

Here are my favorite things from this week.

1. I wore a LOT of color. Makes me happy.

cobalt blue
Pink

2. Girls date with my friend, dinner, Clueless and wine..can't get much better.

3. I ran! I really ran! Getting back on the fitness track!

4. I've been working at a different location this week. It's about an hour drive to and from work in the morning, I loved it! It's a great start to a day to enjoy a little coffee and radio morning show before work! (not to mention some great classic songs!)

5. Even though only a couple days of nice sunny weather, I can say I have officially started my base tan! Hehe.

What are you favorites this week?

You Are My Sunshine

A few weekends ago B and I had a busy day of running errands and then made it fun by checking out the new mall downtown and grabbing dinner. It was a fun day so I wanted to wear something nice and comfortable but wanted to look cute. My MIL got me this cute striped shirt when she was visiting and I found these amazing Micheal Kors nude heels and came up with this outfit. I got so many compliments on this shirt when I was at the mall! Thanks Bridget!

as adorable as these are, probably not the best idea to wear them on a day of walking

The Grey....

My wild pants again! I showed these to one of my friends and she said "yuck" but I don't care I like them. I had been looking for grey pants and these are grey with a little bit of fun in them. How can you go wrong with adding Fun, right?

Escape Artist

After work one day I came to to a very excited Asia jumping at me at the door. Normally this would make me so happy, which it did, but it concerned me a bit as to why she was not in her kennel! Last week I bought Asia a new kennel. We have a great pop up kennel I found for Izzie and it just has so much more room that a normal kennel. So I set out to find another one. I was at Big Lots and they only had a very large kennel which we didn't need so I asked a worker to call around for me to the other stores. They found one and put it on hold for me. It ended up being different than the metal crate, it was fabric. B and I had seen these before, but were unsure what to think of them. I was un-sure if I wanted it but after the worker told me that is what he used for his dog I decided it shouldn't make a difference (plus I confirmed I could return it). We got it home and Asia took to the kennel, for the first day anyways. She soon started pawing at the mesh door and put a small hole it it but we were sure she couldn't dig her way through it. So when I came home and Asia was out I was certain that she just broke through the mesh and trashed the house, poop everywhere and ripped up toys. Izzie was anxious in her kennel but when I got up to Asia's fabric crate I noticed it was not ripped, it was just unzipped! Yep, my smart little dog learned how to unzip her crate. It was so funny and I can report that she did not trash my house. I guess she is smarter than I could have ever known.

asia's kennel, notice the little tear

this is the lock, turns out b didn't actually "lock" the zipper. i still don't know how she moved it, but i made sure to teach b how to lock the kennel.

Update From A Mad Runner

"I Ain't Superman"

UUGGHHH....
that's how I felt Monday. I was pumped from last week and finally catching up in my workout routine. Sunday we went snowboarding and I was ready on Monday to do weights and some cardio and stretch. But when I woke up with my guts feeling like they were trying to escape my body I knew the rest of the week was going to be all downhill from there (and not in a good way). Now I haven't had the stomach flu for quite a while, but I don't remember excruciating back pains being part of it. I don't know what it was but my back killed me all day and through Wednesday!  I was convince that I had meningitis. But I suppose when you are laying on the floor basically hallucinating that your legs don't work, it's a normal reasoning. Tuesday I finally got rid of my fever and felt like I got the shit beat out of me. I still couldn't eat much more than soup and mac and cheese (nothing new there) but my stomach was still cramping up. Damn it sucks.

Wednesday and Friday I reasoned I better do something (definitely not running) so B came home after work and we did some cardio workouts together. I finally felt good enough to do some spinning and weights. I hadn't been up to eating much the rest of the week so I didn't want to over do it.
Sunday I got some motivation and actually ran...outside (only because there was a guy in our clubhouse running and watching hockey). I was motivated, I don't know why (actually I do, it's because I didn't do a damn thing on Saturday) and decided to grab by ipod and hit the pavement. The first half mile was a breeze, then the stomach cramps started. Luckily I was listening to my snowboard mix and that Willie Nelson and Snoop Dogg song came on and I knew that the 3 miles I started out to do was not going to happen. I decided not to push myself too hard, from being sick, and let's be honest, me..running..outside was already an accomplishment. Although I have no idea how far I actually made it, I feel good and have to realize that I will never enjoy running so I should just take it for what it is and do what I can.

A Good Kind of Garbage...

Sometimes garbage can be a good thing. I know, I didn't think it would be possible either until I came across this little pile of deliciousness...

Buffalo Chicken Garbage Bread

What you need:
 2 boneless chicken breasts
1 tsp. olive oil
1 pizza dough (I used store bought and let it sit out for during the day to rise)
8 oz. of shredded mozzarella cheese
3 oz. of shredded cheddar cheese
1/2 cup of Franks Wing Sauce
1/3 cup of ranch or blue cheese dressing (I use the yogurt ranch dressing)

Directions
Pre-heat oven to 425

Heat Olive Oil heat in pan and cut chicken up into bits and cook through. Once cooked add 1/4 cup of the wing sauce to coat the chicken.

In the meantime, spread out the dough and cover with your choice of sauce. I used the wing sauce and the Yogurt Ranch, mix together and pour onto bread.

Next add the cheese, you can use whatever you want but I used shredded cheese.

Add the chicken to the top and roll up. It's not easy but don't worry (they don't call this garbage plate for nothing), make sure to tuck the ends under.
Bake for 20-25 minutes or until the cheese is bubbling.

And Wallah! There you have it! A beautiful and large lump of goodness. If I were to name this it would be the "5 pound calzone".

ps. for those of you who don't know me my hubs is a big guy so i may have used more chicken than my "garbage" could hold. i'm sure if you keep to the recipe more it probably won't "overflow" like mine did (or weigh 5 pounds)

Winter Wear (for Spring)

Although the past few weeks were nice and getting nicer, we still have the Midwest-y weather here in Utah and there are still spring/winter mixed up days in between the nice weather. Luckily I bought a great black Coal hat which I knew I needed after I read this post from Krystal over at This Time Tomorrow. I found in when B's family was in town and am happy I did. Having to bundle up and stay warm is one thing, but keeping my head dry is a completely other. Plus we all have bad hair days and need something to help with them other than our dry shampoo and our top knots.

typical Utah weather, it rained and snowed all day then after work was sunny! thank god

"What I Wore"

Stripes! Who doesn't love them right now. Here I styled two striped sweaters. The first is a daytime look I wore to brunch with my hubby on Sunday. The second is a work look, I got inspiration here from Tara at Mix and Match Fashion

I submitted these looks to Jessica Quirk for her What I Wore Stripes Challenge. She gave me the inspiration to create two different looks. Don't for get to check out her site, she has great style and can pull off the cutest outfits.

Singing the Blues

One problem I have when I shop is I want to make sure that everything I buy is versatile and something that I will use and it's not a waste of money. We've all been there, buying something you may love but not practical (like a mid-length tutu see through type skirt found at the consignment store for next to nothing that is still hanging in my closet never been worn but I had to buy is because it's SO Carrie Bradshaw) so I usually give my self the restriction of buying something that I can merge into my work clothes but also will be able to wear in other ways as well. I want to get the most wear out of my clothes because I am one to get something and then only wear it once or not at all. For instance I will find something I want but wait so long to purchase because I don't want it to be a waste. Then, I usually purchase said items when they are out of style!
Since H&M moved into SLC I have been able to find some of the best items to add to my wardrobeIt's so fun going there because they have amazing pieces that I am able to wear to work and then out in about for fun, date nights and other events. And because it's not expensive I don't ever have buyers remorse even if it's something that I may not be wearing to work or something I only want to wear for a fun event.

In saying all that I found these nice blue skinny pants at H&M for 12.95. They are amazing for work because they don't drag on the ground and are high wasted (it makes me feel skinny;) and also are good for a fun night out to give a little pop in color.

stella and dot bib necklace i love
